The Loss of Two Young Actors...
January 2008 saw the shocking and tragic deaths of two young actors, Brad Renfro and Heath Ledger.
These two deaths rocked the Hollywood community, as it does any time a young talent is cut short. While Renfro's death on January 15 was unexpected and tragic, he was still on a downward spiral all so typical of child actors--problems with the law, drugs, etc... More shocking and unexpected was the death of Heath Ledger on January 22. He was quite successful, and at the "star" level. By all accounts, he seemed happy and well-balanced. He had just finished playing The Joker, in the latest Batman installment, The Dark Knight, and a seemingly stable family life. He leaves behind a baby daughter.
These two deaths paint an all too familiar picture of the dark side of fame. Two young talents--one troubled, and the other, seemingly "having-it-all", now united in a tragic common bond of unexpected Hollywood demises.
Meanwhile, American Idol auditions are running, showcasing the absurd lengths that some people will go to to grasp even 30 seconds of TV time.
